Microtech Combat Troodon Gen III T/E Tan Aluminum Automatic Knife

Microtech Combat Troodon Gen III T/E OTF Automatic Knife – Tan Aluminum / Black Tanto M390MK | 1144-1TA

The Microtech Combat Troodon Gen III T/E OTF Automatic Knife 1144-1TA combines the unmistakable full-size Combat Troodon platform with Microtech’s latest Gen III engineering. This configuration features a tan aluminum handle, a commanding 4.13-inch black-finished Tanto blade, premium Bohler M390MK steel, and Microtech’s smooth double-action out-the-front deployment system.

At 9.50 inches overall, the Combat Troodon Gen III is one of Microtech’s larger OTF automatic knives, giving it a substantial feel while maintaining the precision construction and refined action for which Microtech is known. The contrasting tan-and-black finish gives this model a distinctive appearance that stands apart from traditional all-black Combat Troodon configurations.

Premium Bohler M390MK Tanto Blade

At the center of the Microtech Combat Troodon Gen III 1144-1TA is a 4.13-inch Tanto blade constructed from Bohler M390MK steel.

M390MK is a premium steel developed specifically for Microtech in collaboration with Bohler. It is designed to provide the combination of edge retention, corrosion resistance, durability, and sharpening characteristics expected from a premium Microtech knife.

The aggressive Tanto profile provides a reinforced tip and a versatile cutting geometry, while the flat grind and plain cutting edge create a clean, functional blade design. A black finish completes the look and pairs exceptionally well with the tan aluminum handle.

With a 3.80-inch cutting edge, 0.80-inch blade width, and 0.13-inch blade thickness, this Combat Troodon delivers the substantial dimensions that have made the model one of the most recognizable full-size Microtech OTF knives.

Gen III Double-Action OTF Performance

The Combat Troodon Gen III represents a major evolution of Microtech’s legendary Combat Troodon platform.

Its double-action OTF mechanism allows the blade to deploy and retract through the side-mounted thumb slide. The Gen III platform incorporates Microtech’s updated Dual Fuel drive system, designed to produce smoother operation and reduced actuation effort compared with earlier generations.

Microtech also updated the switch area with its Crud Kutter design, helping the mechanism manage debris around the thumb-slide interface while maintaining dependable operation.

The result is a large-format OTF with noticeably refined action while retaining the unmistakable feel and character of the Combat Troodon.

Tan Aluminum Handle

The 5.50-inch tan aluminum handle provides a strong yet relatively lightweight foundation for the knife. Precision-machined aluminum construction keeps total weight to approximately 5.00 ounces, giving the full-size Combat Troodon a solid in-hand presence without unnecessary bulk.

The tan finish creates a striking contrast against the black Tanto blade and dark hardware, giving model 1144-1TA a distinctive two-tone appearance.

Its streamlined handle measures approximately 1.13 inches wide and 0.50 inches thick, providing enough size for a confident grip while maintaining the slim profile associated with an out-the-front design.

Designed for Right- or Left-Handed Use

The Combat Troodon Gen III uses an intuitive thumb-slide opener and is suitable for both right- and left-handed users. A tip-up pocket clip provides convenient carry, while the streamlined OTF configuration keeps the blade completely contained inside the handle when closed.

At 9.50 inches overall, this is a substantial Microtech and an excellent choice for enthusiasts who prefer a larger OTF platform than models such as the UTX-85 or Ultratech.
